Ahead of 2015, the Enugu State governor, Sullivan Chime has floated a non-partisan pressure group aimed at sensitizing the people of Enugu State for the sole aim of drumming support for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Interestingly, the emergency of the group, known as the Movement for the Re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan (EMJ) as conceived by Governor Chime has its door opened even to the opposition in Enugu State to join in the drive following what he described as “brave and unprecedented efforts to restore a sense of belonging to the Igbos in the country as the reason behind the move”.
Chairman of the group, Mr. Charles Egumgbe while briefing newsmen in Enugu, yesterday, said it is kick-starting in a grand style with a rally on Thursday this week in Enugu.
Egumgbe told reporters that “we want to show the world that Enugu people, irrespective of political or other affiliations, are solidly behind President Goodluck Jonathan. We want to use this rally to thank him for the unprecedented support he has given the Igbos and to Enugu people in particular. We will tell him that we want him to continue in office come 2015.
“Not wanting as the governor of Enugu State, using the government machinery, the governor decided to form this body as a vehicle of rallying everybody for Mr. President’s support.
“This body”, he went on, “is beyond a single political connotation so is not a PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) formation per se but a formation which is embracing all groups, political parties, civil society group, religious groups, market associations and so on. It is a conglomeration of what we have within the bounds of this State “This is the brainchild of the governor of Enugu State.
The idea did not flow from any other State. it is his philosophy that on the basis of the performance of the President and the numerous quests here and there as signified by several formations, asking Mr. President to re-run, the governor in his wisdom decided to constitute the Enugu Movement for the Re-election of Jonathan for the purposes of showing his manifestation in terms of total support not only joining Mr. President in terms of contributions to Nigeria as a whole but as a proof for vivid and tacit support for Mr. President’s re-election”, he added.
