The North –West zone of the party, yesterday urged President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately declare for the 2015 presidency following the massive support he enjoys from Nigerians as a result of the transformation agenda of his administration and leadership style and vision.
All the stakeholders of the PDP in the North-West zone, comprising Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and Jigawa states were among those who attended a meeting to adopt Jonathan’s candidacy for the 2015 Presidential election.
At the meeting also attended by the Vice President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo and the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, the party chieftains from the zone urged Mua’zu to convey to Jonathan “the resolution and unanimous declaration of the entire leadership and membership of the PDP in the North West to president Jonathan to render himself for continued service to this nation.”
Delivering the communiqué and resolution of the party, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali said “having carefully considered the steady and stable progress of our nation under the able leadership of the President, the stakeholders of PDP in the North West, having in mind the monumental strides attained by this administration, have resolved to urge President Jonathan to declare for president in the forthcoming 2015 elections so as to continue the good works he started in nation building”.
Wali highlighted the various projects embarked upon by Jonathan’s administration, while also saying “the action taken by the government at combating insurgency in the north and the continuous call for dialogue and its determination to protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity is fully appreciated.”
Stressing the various development programmes of Jonathan’s administration, Ambassador Wali remarked: “The drive to reposition the power sector by the Jonathan administration has been widely acclaimed. The current efforts to revive industries in the north by the construction of the 215 mega watts thermal power plant at Kudendan industrial Area in Kaduna, which is now at the final stage of completion, is one of the efforts the administration is making to resuscitate our industrial sector.”
According to the minister, “It is on record that this administration is committing huge resources to arrest desertification in the north. The Great Green Wall programme being implemented in the region is aimed at arresting desert encroachment.”
