Over 7000 school children in both primary and secondary school have been reportedly forced out of school in Nasarawa at the in the wake of attacks in both Benue and Nasarawa state.
Investigations revealed that at least, over 7,000 primary school pupils and secondary school students have been reportedly forced out of school in Awe, Keana,Obi and Doma local government areas in the state following the displaced of border communities between Nasarawa and Benue state at the wake of suspected herdsmen attacks on communities in the two state.
It was gathered that over 4,000 school children in both primary and secondary schools particularly in the displaced Tiv communities in Keana and Doma local government areas have been forced out of school as a result of the crisis.
An investigation revealed that the Tiv ethnic group who are predominently farmers are said to be the most populated ethnic nationalities in Doma, Obi, Keana and Awe and Lafia local government areas in the state affected by the crisis.
Education secretion (ES) of Awe local government area in Nasarawa state, Sale Abubakar Kenje confirmed to our Correspondent that about 3,000 primary school pupils in Awe local government area mainly in Tiv speaking extraction along the communities of Nasarawa and Benue are have forced out of school as a result of the herdsmen farmers
conflict.
He said that the presence of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) that were camped in some public primary schools in the area would not hider resumption of academic activities in the schools.
According to him, arrangements would be made to ensure that the presence of the IDPs camps at the school premises does not interrupt academic activities in the affected schools where IDPs are camped. – New Telegraph.
