The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Wednesday sealed a strategic partnership agreement with the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC on robust effective financial management system.
The association also presented awards of exemplary leadership to the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Professor Umar Danbatta and to the NCC for exemplary organization in improving employees’ skills on financial management.
The ACCA is the largest and fastest-growing international accountancy body with over 300,000 students and members in 160 countries, reputed for inspiring its members for robust and global best practices in financial management.
Speaking at the event, the NCC EVC said the strategic partnership between ACCA and NCC was consistent with the 8-Point Agenda of the Commission with a view to adding value to the Commission’s financial services, improving the quality of service and professionally enhancing the knowledge of staff of the NCC, particularly staff of the department of financial services.
‘‘In our 8-point agenda, we have strategic collaboration and partnership. ACCA today came to offer partnership consistent with that item on our agenda, with a view to adding value to our financial services, improving the quality of services, professionally enhancing the knowledge of staff of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, particularly staff of the department of financial services,’’ he added.
Earlier, the Head of ACCA in Nigeria, Thomas Isibor said the association considered NCC as an iconic Nigerian organization that requires partnership with ACCA to boost the capacity of its staff and as well enhance its financial management process.
Isibor explained that the partnership between the two organizations would focus on developing capacity for member of NCC staff and also across organization effectiveness in delivering key its business objectives.
‘‘NCC is an Iconic Nigerian institution. If you look at the regulating space, you will find out that they have been very active and we understand that telecom infrastructure is very important to human capital development.
‘‘Beyond that, we have always seen them being very robust in developing ICT and capability for their member of staff as well as ACCA members in their organization.
‘‘We are recognising that and also partnering with them in developing capacity for member of staff and also across organization effectiveness in delivering key business objectives of the organization.’’
‘‘The first award was in recognition of the EVC as a leader with vision, and a leader with foresight; we are also recognising that leadership quality because we understand that without leadership we are not going to move very far. The second award is for NCC as an organization, which has improved its employees’ skills.
‘‘Attached to it are some benefits from the ACCA. NCC needs to have a partnership with ACCA as well, so that we can develop the best financial capability of NCC as well as organization’s effectiveness as well.
‘‘ACCA is massive and huge in terms of research. And so, we research in different areas and share some financial research findings with NCC like the recently launched Financial App called Generational X on how individuals behave in a public sector so that we can manage resources better.
‘‘This is the kind of research we share with our partners like NCC need which no other organization has access to for a gigantic business planning. Like I said, NCC needs, strategic business planning in terms of better and effective way financial management of the organization,’’ Isibor said.
