The Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) says it is a vehicle for national cohesion and patriotism as it inducts Dr James Spencer as its Sports Ambassador.
The NFSC National Chairman, Rev. Samuel Ikpea, made the assertion at Spencer’s investiture as Sports Ambassador on Sunday at the Living Spring Chapel, Goshen land at Ikeja, Lagos.
Ikpea, who went down memory lane relayed the history of the club and its founding fathers and their sacrifices to ensure Nigeria teams were cheered to success in their sports meets.
He spoke glowingly of how the club had taken it as its responsibility to always fly the national flag both nationally and internationally, cheering the Super Eagles other football and sports teams in their engagements.
“These people you are seeing here use their money, time and energy to travel the world over to cheer the Super Eagles to victory.
“Even when we are losing, we still cheer for our teams. The NFSC has used the club as a vehicle for national cohesion and an epitome of patriotism.
Ikpea said Spencer deserved to be an Ambassador of the club because of his immense contributions to the economic development of Lagos State.
“Sir, we at the NFSC associate with personalities who have the quest and love of humanity. We love people who are selfless in the discharge of their patriotism and service to their nation.
“We have found this in you sir, hence, we have decided to associate with you,’’ he said.
In his acceptance speech, Spencer spoke volumes of the love and patriotism the NFSC had expressly displayed whenever they were representing Nigeria as they cheer the national teams in different tournaments all over the world.
He said: “I do admire you people whenever I see you in action on television. Today, I am seeing you people in real life. This is great.
“This great honour you have given to me is a call to duty to work harder for the good of humanity, but this time around to promote sports among the youth for a better Nigeria.
“Sport is a unifying voice and an instrument of unity in any nation. I am going to join you henceforth to promote sport and align with your spirit to take this country, Nigeria to the next level.’’The elaborate ceremony was also graced by some of the foundation members and elders of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, and paraded a galaxy of eminent personalities in the government of Lagos State.
