Four persons have been reportedly killed and several others maimed and raped along the Benin by-pass road, as suspected Fulani herdsmen laid siege and attacked travelers on Wednesday, 16th April 2014.
It was gathered that the herdsmen, who had about a month ago, successfully attacked travelers along Okada area of the state, carted away money, phones, wrist watches and other valuables.
According to Imaseh David, an eye witness, the ugly incident happened at about 12:27pm.
Mr. David explained that the herdsmen were about a hundred in number, dressed in military uniforms.
The eyewitness added that the herdsmen spoke in Hausa language.
According to him, the herdsmen blocked and raided the travelers for over an hour without any police intervention.
Mr. David stated that he was on his way to his farm when he witnessed the herdsmen attack travelers en route to Lagos.
Mr. David said he was pained that innocent lives were lost in the herdsmen attack.
He lamented that for the whole period the herdsmen raided the travelers there was not any police presence.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPPRO), Bello Kontongs, has condemned the hideous and dastardly act, promising that the perpetrators would be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
He commiserated with the families of the deceased, praying that God grant them the fortitude to bear their losses.
The PPRO confirmed that the deceased corpses had been deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
The PPRO also called on anyone with useful information to come forward to help the Police track down, apprehend the killer herdsmen and bring them to justice.
