The Chairman, Senate Committee on Security and Intelligent, Senator Mohammadu Magoro said the insecurity ravaging the country, especially the Northern part, requires urgent attention and solution before it degenerates into an abysmal level.
Addressing traditional rulers and other government functionaries in Plateau State yesterday, the Chairman of the Committee who led other members to Plateau State on fact finding mission on the crisis ravaging the state said the senate cannot stand aloof and watch the security situation in the country degenerated, hence the committee’s visit to the state and other crisis-ridden parts especially Benue, Nasarawa adding that the committee will visit other states after the Easter brake.
Said he: “We cannot sit down and watch our communities being ravaged by crisis hence the intervention of the senate through this committee. We need to act fact because if it persists, we may, one day not be able to go home or visit our constituencies”
In his address, the Secretary to Plateau State Government, represented by the Special Adviser on Peace Building, Mr. Timothy Parlong, said Plateau State has passed through hell in the past four years as a result of senseless killings of innocent citizens by those often referred to unknown gunmen.
According to him, in the circle of violence, property worth billions of naira were destroyed and a lot of people rendered homeless for just no reason adding that the pathetic situation at a point in time degenerated into bombing of places of worship and targeted killings to wipe out a generation.
