The Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime, has promised to intensify efforts towards campaigns for elective seats to ensure that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious at both federal and state levels in the 2015 general elections.
Chime stated this on Tuesday at a PDP stakeholders meeting in Enugu where he disclosed that the party has been preparing for the forthcoming primaries in the state to elect its candidates and commence political rallies in various local government areas.
The Governor also commended the members of the party for their steadfastness in supporting the party and standing firm behind Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the party’s consensus candidate in the state gubernatorial primaries, whom he described as a “very popular and choice candidate”.
“It is only Ugwuanyi that has become very popular among the party members and electorates even before we hold the party primaries”, the governor declared.
On the forthcoming party primaries in the state, Chime assured that the PDP would hold credible and transparent primaries and therefore called on the aggrieved members of the party to come together to build a peaceful family in the state which would provide a platform for the party to deliver on the aspirations of Enugu people.
The Enugu State chapter of the PDP as well as members of the State Executive Committee are awaiting a new date for the ward congress which is to be announced by the national leadership of the PDP.
Chime also dispelled rumours that he and other loyalists were planning to defect to another party, explaining that he remained a loyal member of the PDP and would lead the party to victory at the polls.
He stated that his grassroots consolidation strategies have become a growing concern for the opposition.
It is “giving the opposition sleepless nights”, he added.
Governor Chime expressed gratitude to the stakeholders for supporting the re-election bid rally of President Goodluck Jonathan which held in the State recently.
Speaking at the Enugu rally, Mr. Chime said the turnout for the event by the people of Enugu was an indication that the state would vote massively for Mr. Jonathan.
“We’re here to support the bid of President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo to return to office in 2015,” he said. “Our people have here demonstrated their support for Mr. President. Enugu State is 100 per cent for the PDP. I can assure you that come 2015 any vote for any other person apart from Jonathan must be a vote cast in error.”
The stakeholders meeting was attended by the state executive committee members and party members from the various local government areas.
