Former Super Eagles captain, Henry Nwosu, has declared that the Super Eagles need a credible domestic coach to bring the desirable change in the senior national team.
Nwosu noted that hiring a foreign coach to handle the team at this moment would jeopardize the Eagles transformation process.
The erstwhile U-17 coach, however, called on the board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to create an enabling environment by throwing open the job of the Super Eagles coaching for qualified domestic coaches to tender their application, saying that strict assessment must be put in place to get the best coach to manage the team.
Nwosu, a member of the 1980 Green Eagles’ Nations Cup winning squad also called on those clamouring for the sack of Coach Stephen Keshi to show some level of respect, stressing that Keshi has made a remarkable achievement in Nigeria football by wining the Africa Nations cup as a player and a coach.
He also added that the NFF has the wherewithal to keep the team on the right track notwithstanding the anomalies that faced the Eagles during the Africa Nations Cup qualifiers.
“I don’t think hiring a foreign coach to manage the Eagles at this point will bring any change to the Eagles. It will take the foreign coach a long time to organize the team. We have seen in the past when expatriate coaches come to the country and destabilize the team and run away.
“Domestic coaches should be allowed to apply for the Eagles job. The NFF has the wherewithal to decide if Keshi can continue with the Eagles job or not. People should stop castigating him,” he said.
