A young lady, who disguised as a traveller yesterday blew herself up at a motor-park in Damaturu, Yobe State, killing 10 people while injuring 32.
This is even as President Goodluck Jonathan was angry with some prominent Nigerians who delight in maligning the military despite their sacrifices to sustain Nigeria’s unity.
In the motor-park attack, a security source said the lady had targeted soldiers at the place located in the heart of the town, but the suspicion forced her to target another area.
“She was wearing a black hijab (veil). I saw her when she strolled in, moved towards the security post and suddenly turned back, but I never thought she was a suicide bomber. She went into a vehicle loading passengers and I also moved to buy a bottle of soft drink at the other end of the park and suddenly, I heard a loud sound,” a witness, who did not want his name in print, told Daily Sun on phone.
Police spokesman, Toyin Gbadegesin, an Assistant Superintendent, confirmed the incident to reporters in Damaturu. He said the incident occurred at about 12:20 pm, adding that eight people were killed by the blast.
“At about 12.10 pm, a hijab-wearing female suicide bomber came into the park and went to the security vehicle there and she was turned back after her movement was suspicious. She went to a commercial vehicle (Sharon) in the car that was half-loaded and the bomb exploded,” he disclosed.
