Not fewer than five filling stations have been sealed-off in Ekiti State by the order of the state Petroleum Consumers Protection Agency for allegedly hoarding fuel and selling the commodity above the official pump price of N87 per litre.
This was disclosed to journalists in Ado Ekiti yesterday by the chairman of the agency, Mr. Adeyemi Adebayo who said that each of the erring stations would pay a penalty of N500,000 to the purse of the state, saying this would serve as deterrent to others.
Names of the affected filling stations according to him are, Prosperous filling station, Isan-Ekiti, Iroporal filling station, Iropora-Ekiti; Ferbason filling station, Ado-Ekiti, MNPC, Ado-Ekiti as well as Montel filling station also in Ado-Ekiti.
Most of the stations were according to him caught in the act on a tip-off, regretting that some of the stations were selling a litre of fuel for as high as between N100 to N120 as against N87 approved by government
