Former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, arrived in Abuja on Tuesday for his scheduled public presentation by the Nigeria Football Federation today.
The unveiling ceremony that will see him sign a contract, will hold from 10am at the Media Centre of the National Stadium, Abuja.
The NFF Assistant Director of Communication, Mr. Ademola Olajire, confirmed that the ceremony would hold as scheduled.
“He arrived in Abuja at about 4pm and has since settled into his hotel room. He will meet the media and indeed Nigerians tomorrow (Wednesday),” Olajire said.
The former Ajax and Dortmund midfielder arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport aboard a Lufthansa flight and moved into the Transcorp Hilton Hotel soon after.
Last week the former Eagles captain met with an NFF team led by their boss Amaju Pinnick in London. He was thereafter named as the replacement for Stephen Keshi, whose appointment was terminated by the federation on July 4.
Reports from NFF officials indicate that Oliseh will be handed a five-year contract and will be placed on a N5m monthly salary, which his predecessor and former teammate Keshi also got.
As a player for Nigeria, Oliseh featured in two World Cups — USA‘94 and France 1998. He was also a member of the Olympic Games gold medal winning team in the soccer event at the Atlanta ‘96 Games. On the continent, the former Juventus player was part of the Eagles’ team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 in Tunisia.
At club level, Oliseh played for Reggiana, FC Cologne, Ajax Amsterdam, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, VFL Bochum and RC Genk before retiring in 2006.
Last week Pinnick told the media, “Sunday Oliseh has vast experience and immense knowledge of the game, and will certainly add value to what we are doing. He has bought into our vision and objectives towards the development of Nigeria football. He will command the respect of the players and we trust he has the temperament to work harmoniously with the Technical and Development Committee, the Technical Directorate and the Technical Study Group.
“On our part at the NFF, we will give him all the support to succeed as we have been giving to all our coaches. Subject to the approval of the NFF Executive Committee, we will conclude negotiations by weekend and he will be unveiled next week.”
And from his Belgium home last Thursday, Oliseh said “I have watched the NFF closely recently and I believe they are focused and their vision is clear.” – Punch.
