The Ebonyi State government has raised the alarm over the activities of people it described as ‘failed’ politicians in the state, who have resorted to using fetish ways to attack Governor David Umahi and other State Executive Council members with the aim of bringing down the government.
The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Senator Emmanuel Onwe, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s state executive council meeting.
He said that some people who were hell bent on bring the government down had been consulting rural shrines and holding several community meetings.
“Those who want to distract the government, for example, those who go to rural shrines and organise community meetings to attack members of ExCo or create scenario that will distract members of ExCo. They are warned to desist from such acts as this government will resist them.”
He maintained that the state government would not allow the bad influence of the previous administration to distract it, saying that such influence would be vehemently resisted.
He pointed out that empires rise and fall, but one of the greatest and most consistent part of history was that empires fell because of conspiracies.
Onwe added that the same way, government and administration fell because of internal contradiction and personal ambitions and he cited the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan as a victim of such anomaly.
He said that during the immediate past administration of Governor Martin Elechi, the state had more than five governors and each, at every point in time, were seen asserting his own authorities and priorities; a situation that killed government’s good objectives and intentions.
Onwe added that the present governor had severally told his appointees during the State Executive Council meeting that there would not be more than two Governors as was the case in the past and warned that the Government would not tolerate any internal contradictions and clash of interests.
