AMCON wins ‘Public Sector Agency of the Year Award’ at IndependentAwards 2022

Mrs Iyatum Adode-Kobiti, Group Head, Corporate Services, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) displays the award, which AMCON won at the Independent Newspapers Limited 2022 Awards at Eko Hotels, Lagos on Saturday

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) led by Ahmed Lawan Kuru as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer has won the Independent Awards 2022 ‘Public Sector Agency of the Year Award.’ The event was organised by Independent Newspapers Limited (INL) publishers of Daily Independent, Saturday Independent and Sunday Independent newspapers.

A statement issued by Mr Jude Nwauzor, Head Corporate Communications Department of AMCON said the latest award adds to the collection of awards on display on the cabinet of the debt recovery agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria even since it was established in 2010 as a key stabilizing and re-vitalizing tool with the aim of reviving the financial system by efficiently resolving the non-performing loan assets of the banks in the Nigerian economy.

Before now, AMCON had been recognised and rewarded publicly by a host of credible evaluation agencies and organisations including Leadership Newspapers, Federal Character Commission, New Telegraph Newspapers, BusinessDay Newspapers, and African Development Magazine, just to mention a few.

A representative of the Managing Director/CEO of AMCON Mrs Iyatum Adode-Kobiti, who led a delegation of AMCON to the awards including Mr Muhammad Najib Suleman to receive the award on behalf of the Corporation at the gala night, which held on Saturday February 18, at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos thanked the Management, the Editorial Board, and staff of Independent Newspapers Limited for selecting AMCON for the prestigious honour. Mrs Adode-Kobiti is the Group Head, Corporate Services at AMCON.

With honours such as this for AMCON, and coming from one of the leading newspapers in the country, Mrs Adode-Kobiti restated the award came at a time AMCON is pushing to meet its mandate with the reenergised AMCON Act, which was recently amended by the National Assembly, and already signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to her, the Corporation will continue to operate within the ambit of the law and in line with its Act as amended to deliver on its mandate. She also called on other media establishments in the country to support AMCON as the National assignment, which AMCON is doing ought to be the business of all well-meaning Nigerians because the debt AMCON is chasing will do a lot of good for the Nigerian economy if fully recovered.

Aside from AMCON, among the awardees include the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who bagged the Man of the Year Award; Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, who was received the Governor of the Year; Umana Umana, who mounted the podium to receive the Minister of the Year Award.

Also, in the award themed ‘Celebrating Nigeria’s Bests’, international tycoon, Femi Otedola, carted away the Business Mogul of the Decade’, while Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu was decorated with the Manufacturer of the Decade Award due to his contributions in the nation’s manufacturing sub-sector of the economy.

Another highlight of the award was the presentation of the South-South Personality of the Decade Award to High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo. Another top personality who bagged an award is former Military Administrator of Lagos State, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (rtd), now the Chairman/Chief Executive, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), among others.
