APC reschedules governorship primary to Sept. 30

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi, former Akwa Ibom State governor and also, former Senate minority leader Goodwill Akpabio into its reconciliation committee, which was announced on Monday evening.

The committee is divided into six, representing the country’s six geo-political zones. Kano Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje heads the panel in the South East while Yobe Governor, Ibrahim Geidam, heads the committee.

Borno Governor Kashim Shettima heads the reconciliation panel for the South West while Ajimobi chairs the North West panel.

For the South South, outgoing Osun Governor, Rauf Aregbesola is chairman and for the North East, it is Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura.

The North West has former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo as member, as well as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje.

Akpabio is a member of the South East panel, which also includes Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi.

South West members include Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State and former Senate president, Ken Nnamani as well as NIMASA Director General, Dakuku Peterside.

Ekiti State governor is a member of the North Central panel while Senator Gbemisola Saraki is on the South South committee. Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari is a member of the North East panel.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency (RIVNESCA), has commenced the final process of recruiting 3,000 personnel, following the directive of Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Thousands of shortlisted candidates yesterday, gathered at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt, for screening by officials of RIVNESCA.

The 3,000 personnel, when recruited, will gather information from communities across the 23 local government areas of the state and pass the same to security agencies for relevant action.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency, Brigadier General Dick Ironabare (retd.), said Rivers people should expect the best from the agency, which will fill the security gap in the state.

He said: “The security gap in the state is the lack of appropriate information to fight crime. So, this agency will gather information and intelligence in various communities and pass over to security agencies to act upon.

“Rivers people will benefit in terms of security. We are doing proper screening. After the screening, they will go for training and, thereafter, they will be deployed to the communities.”

The chairman urged Rivers people to cooperate with the personnel when they are deployed to the localities.

Director General of the agency, Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Uche Chukwuma, said the screening was the final leg of the recruitment process.
