The Governor of Yobe State, Ibrahim Geidam, has said his state and Borno State will need between N10bn and N12bn for reconstruction following the damage they suffered due to the activities of Boko Haram.
Geidam said this in Abuja on Thursday while fielding questions from the State House correspondents shortly after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa.
He said normal life would return to the states if the Federal Government expended the demanded amount.
He said, “By our estimate, if the Federal Government spends up to N10bn or N12bn, things will be better.”
The governor, who maintained that his state was now enjoying peace and harmony, said he came to brief Buhari on the situation in the state and that he (Buhari) promised to look into the matter.
Geidam said the Internally Displaced Persons’ camps in the state now housed about 3,000 IDPs while many others had returned home.
He said, “I came to brief Mr. President on the situation in Yobe State, especially the returning IDPs. Now, we have about 3,000 IDPs in our camps. All the others have returned home. I briefed him on what we have done and what the Federal Government should do.
