There is uncertainty over the reintegration of the 51 repentant Boko Haram insurgents of Gwoza, Borno State as their community rejected them when they were evacuated there last Monday.
As soon as the people sighted them in the security-escorted vehicle that conveyed them from Bakassi Camp, Maiduguri, they threatened to kill them if they were not taken out of the community, forcing the authorities to re-evacuate them back to Maiduguri Tuesday.
After their de-radicalization for which they were issued certificates of psychosocial normalcy at the Gombe rehabilitation centre, they were evacuated to the Bulumkutu rehabilitation centre, Maiduguri, and later to Bakassi IDPs camp, Maiduguri, where IDPs allegedly victimised by them attempted to kill them, forcing the authorities to evacuate them to their Gwoza home community.
The evacuation from Gombe to the Bulumkutu centre signified the military completely transferring their responsibility to the Borno State government; while their evacuation to their Gwoza home community signified the state government completely handing over their responsibility to Gwoza local government.
With their re-evacuation out of Gwoza on Tuesday, however, it is not certain whose responsibility the psychosocially de-radicalization insurgents is, as their Maiduguri destination is still unknown.
It was learnt that as soon as they arrived Maiduguri from Gwoza, Bakassi camp, officials and IDPs opposed taking them back to the camp, forcing their transporters to convey them to an unknown destination. – Daily Trust.
