Buhari appoints heads for NEITI, NSCDC, Correctional Service

…Senate confirms Muruako as FRC chair

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of a new Executive Secretary for the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), a Commandant-General for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), a Controller-General for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and a new Chairman for the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC).

Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji is the new Executive Secretary of the NEITI.

Orji’s appointment, which takes effect from today, followed the expiration of the term of office of the immediate past Executive Secretary of the organisation, Waziri Onibiyo Adio.

Ahmed Abubakar Audi is the new Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola announced on Thursday.

He said the appointment followed the retirement of Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu in January.

The minister also said the President approved the nomination of Haliru Nababa as the new Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

A statement by the Ministry of Interior’s Director of Press, Mohammed Manga, said Audi came tops among those selected by the ministry.

It said the nomination is subject to the confirmation of the Senate in line with the provisions of the Act that established the Nigerian Correctional Service 2019.

Aregbesola, who is the Chairman of Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Board (CDCFIB), congratulated the new appointees.

Also, the Senate yesterday confirmed the appointment of Victor Chinemerem Muruako as chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC).

The Upper Chamber urged President Buhari to urgently nominate the remaining six members of the commission to enable it perform its duties effectively.

The FRC, which was established by the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007, did not have a properly constituted board for 14 years, contrary to the Act.

Muruako had been serving as the agency’s Acting Chairman since 2014 and the government had failed to fully constitute its board.
