Clergy joins Ebonyi guber race

A renowned clergyman and General Overseer of the Eternal Light of World Christian Church (Worldwide), Dr. Adol Awam, has declared his intention to contest the governorship election in Ebonyi State come 2019 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Awam made the declaration in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Monday during an interactive session with newsmen.

He said that his intention to contest the gubernatorial position of the state was borne out of his track record of achievements both in the ecclesiastical realm and political arena.

Awam said, “Any candidate vying for the governorship seat of Ebonyi State in 2019 must come from the northern senatorial zone of the state; the zone has the highest numerical strength and political awareness; I have the advantage.

“I want to use this medium to debunk insinuation in some quarters alluding that my ambition was being sponsored by the present government in the state.”

Awam said being a renowned clergyman from the Ebonyi North Senatorial District which has the highest population in the state, his chances of winning the election were bright.

He said if voted, his administration would give priority to the welfare of the people.

“I want to use this medium to call on the APC faithful in the state to rise up in this struggle and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and work as a team to achieve victory for the party come 2019,” he said.
