The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has called for the review of the laws guiding the conduct of public officers in the country, stating that the laws of the country as it is currently composed supports corruption.
President of the NLC, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, who stated this in Abuja, during its National Rally on Good Governance and corruption, also said that the Congress is set for a showdown with judges that are frustrating the efforts of the anti-corruption agencies from prosecuting corrupt individuals through the granting of perpetual injunction of restraints.
According to him, the NLC would no longer fold its hands and allow some members of the judiciary to frustrate the fight against corruption, but would instead insist that those who misappropriated public funds be made to return the funds while being made to face the full wrath of the law.
The NLC boss however lamented that the laws of the country as regards tackling the issue of corruption is weak and needs to be reviewed to make it effective. “Our laws are weak and lack the impetus to fight and discourage corrupt practices,” he said.
He blamed the sorry state of affairs in the country at the moment on the loss of good governance, stating that the leadership of the country should be compelled to be responsible to the citizenry. Vanguard
