Edo govt unveils tech training programme for 5000 women

The Edo State Government in partnership with Udacity, a global online educational organization, has announced the opening of 5000 slots for women on the EdoWorX Tech Fundamentals Programme.

Managing Director of Edo State Skills Development Agency, EdoJobs, Mrs. Ukinebo Dare, in a statement, said the EdoWorX Tech Fundamental Programme which is being managed by the agency, will provide scholarships to train women on in-demand tech skills.

She said the initiative “offers scholarships to train Edo State residents with more focus on women on in-demand tech skills in fields such as Web Development Fundamental, Data Analytics Fundamental and Digital Marketing Fundamental.”

According to her, the EdoWorX Tech Fundamentals Programme is a tech upskilling initiative for beginners with zero experience in tech, adding that the proragmme aims to create the next generation of digital work professionals in top digital fields and enabling the youth to utilize the opportunities available within and outside Edo State.

“This partnership will benefit over 800 Edo women who have already received training on high-demand tech skills in areas such as Web Development, Data Analysis and Digital Marketing which commenced in February, 2022,” Dare explained.

She added that the programme, which is being sponsored by the Edo State Government and World Bank, is powered by EdoJobs in partnership with Udacity, for all residents in the state to pursue careers in technology, even without prior experience.

The Managing Director noted, “The initiative is in line with Governor Godwin Obaseki’s agenda to furnish and prepare the Edo State talent pool for digital jobs. This exciting and potentially life-changing sponsored programme will provide beneficiaries with specialized hands-on tech training, career and freelancing coaching, access to online jobs, a community of experts, and globally recognized certifications in just five weeks.

She also noted that the courses are taught online and can be completed at one’s own pace, when and where convenient.
