The Honourable Commissioner of Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, is actively pursuing a collaboration between the ministry and the Nigerian Police Force to enhance security measures in Enugu State.
During a recent courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police Enugu State, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, at the State Police Command, Dr. Agbo emphasized the critical need for cooperation between the Neighborhood Watch Groups and the Police to achieve optimal security outcomes in the state.
In his introductory speech, Dr. Agbo stressed the importance of establishing a well-structured communication framework between the Police and the Ministry, specifically concerning Neighborhood Watch activities.
He believed that this framework would ensure that only verified information and personnel are involved in interactions between the Ministry and the Police, thereby eliminating any potential ambiguity.
Dr. Agbo highlighted the indispensable role of Neighborhood Watch in ensuring the safety of communities and emphasized that for the state’s economy to thrive, there must be adequate security of life and property. He reiterated the commitment of the administration led by HE Dr. Peter Mbah to bolster the state’s security measures, with the Neighborhood Watch playing a paramount role.
He stated, “But they cannot do it alone. There should be a synergy between the Police and the Neighborhood Watch. We are here to strengthen the ties. We want the collaboration and cooperation between the two and other security formations to ensure that our state is secure.”
In response, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu expressed gratitude to the Honourable Commissioner and his team for their visit and affirmed the Police’s readiness to work closely with Neighborhood Watch Groups and Associations in the state.
He lauded the Neighborhood Watch Groups for their invaluable grassroots services that contribute significantly to Police operations.
CP Uzuegbu concluded by assuring Hon. Dr. Agbo that the Ministry would receive unwavering cooperation from the Police in the state, underscoring the commitment to bolstering security and safety throughout Enugu State.
