A non-governmental organisation in Enugu State under the auspices of Association of Enugu State Patriotic Movement (AEPM) yesterday described as baseless and misleading the statement credited to the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Barr. Okey Ezea, calling on the electorate to vote for him on the grounds that “the state could not afford to be in the opposition”.
Rising from an emergency meeting yesterday, the association through its Chairman, Chief Chris I. Nweke said it was a cheap ploy for the APC governorship candidate to attempt to hide under the euphoria of the APC victory at the presidential election to deceive voters in Enugu State, who have being endeared to the PDP since the inception of the party in 1998.
It noted with dismay that the APC governorship candidate in the state rather than engage in objective campaign had embarked on cheap and senseless propaganda as the only means to woo voters in the state.
The association however maintained that the issue of “national rebirth” as being promoted by the APC governorship candidate is not obtainable in a PDP dominated state such as Enugu, which has impacted positively on the lives of the electorate through its people-oriented programmes and policies.
The body also faulted the ulterior motives of the APC governorship candidate in engaging in such baseless campaign and reminded him that the content of the manifesto of the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, which centres on “continuity and consolidation of the 4-point agenda” of the incumbent PDP administration, is more appealing and endearing to the people.
Chief Nweke emphasized that the PDP’s tempo of development in Enugu State will not be affected by the current change at the federal level, noting that Enugu State had the best of infrastructural development during the reins of Senator Jim Nwobodo as Governor of old Anambra State under an opposition political party.
The Association therefore called on voters to disregard the propaganda being peddled by the APC governorship candidate in the State as it was meant to mislead them and whip up undue sentiment.
