The people of Enugu State yesterday defied rain that almost marred the voting process in the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in the state to come out to cast their votes.
Enugu State governorship election is a straight contest between two political parties. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Chief Okay Ezea of the All Progressive Congress Party (APC).
From the polling boots our correspondents visit yesterday indicated that there was low turn out by the electorates which one of the voters attributed to the aftermath of the last two weeks presidential elections.
TheCitizen gathered that the election was peaceful in the state except at Community Primary School, Itchi in Igbo-Eze South LG where there was skirmish violence between the supporters of the APC and PDP. But the security agents were able to quell it before it escalated.
At press time, collation is currently on going at the Independent National Electoral Commission offices at the local government headquarters in the seventeen local governments in the State but the few results that are trickling in, indicate that Ugwuanyi is having an upper hand in virtually all the 2958 polling units in the state.
At Isi-Uzo Local Government, PDP = 21,651, APC = 1,813, APGA = 260, PDC = 254.
In Ezeagu Local government, PDP = 32,995, APC = 1,307.
Details to follow soon.
