The Enugu State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on its supporters and the electorate to remain resolute and supportive to the genuine and people-oriented programmes of the party in the state by coming out en masse on April 11, 2015 to vote for its governorship candidate, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and other candidates for the House of Assembly elections for a continued delivery of democratic dividends.
In a statement signed by the Director-General of the PDP Campaign Organization in the State, Chief C.O.C Egumgbe, the party dismissed the devious acts of blackmail, mischief, falsehood and senseless propaganda being peddled in the media by the state leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a failed attempt to hoodwink the overwhelming PDP supporters in the state to vote for APC candidates in the coming elections, following the victory the party (APC) recorded in the presidential election.
He stated that the defeat the PDP suffered in the Presidential election was an unfortunate accident that will not in any form affect the goodwill and popularity the party enjoys in Enugu State, stressing that the incident has rather strengthened the party and made it more stronger for the challenges ahead.
Egumgbe who thanked the people of the state for the massive votes they gave the PDP during the Presidential and National Assembly elections, revealed that the glaring fact that the PDP in Enugu State has endeared itself to the electorate through its developmental programmes and laudable policies as enshrined in the 4-point agenda of the State Government makes it impossible for the opposition political parties to make any positive impact in the remaining elections in the State.
He added that the party was also strengthened by the fact that it has popular and acceptable candidates for the elections, especially its governorship candidate, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who has distinguished himself creditably in public service as a technocrat and an experienced politician with a vast knowledge of the needs of the people.
The Director-General advised the APC in the state to be ready to accept defeat on April 11, 2015 and exhibit similar sense of sportsmanship as exemplified by President Goodluck Jonathan, when the PDP coasts to victory, adding that no amount of blackmail, intimidation, deceit, smear campaign and negative propaganda against the PDP will deter it from winning the remaining elections in the state under a transparent, peaceful, free and fair exercise.
The Party therefore called on the general public most especially voters in Enugu State to disregard the antics of the APC in the State and remain focused and committed to the vision and collective efforts to continue and consolidate on the gains of the 4-point agenda of the PDP government in the overall interest of the people.
