The Federal Government on Wednesday said that it will kick-start activities marking Nigeria’s 54th Independent anniversary on Friday with Muslim national prayers.
The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, made the disclosure at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President, Namadi Sambo, while briefing State House correspondents.
He said the council deliberated over the activities lined up for the celebration which was presented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim.
According to the Minister, the programme will begin with Muslim National prayer at the National Mosque, Abuja on Friday and it will be followed by inter-denomination Christian prayer at the National Christian Centre on Sunday.
Maku said that President Goodluck Jonathan will give out national honors at the International Conference Centre as part of programme marking the anniversary.
He said that there will be national broadcast by the President on Wednesday, October 1st by 7.00 am, while change of guards ceremony will take place at the Presidential Villa by 9.00 am.
On the same day, the Minister said that Independent Anniversary Dinner will be held at the State House Banquet Hall by 7.00 pm.
