Fidelity Bank Plc, on Thursday, said it was considering to prosecute its debtors any moment soon.
The Managing Director of the bank, Mr Nnamdi Okonkwo, disclosed this to newsmen in Onitsha, Anambra State, during the customer forum of the bank held for stakeholders in the area.
The debtors, he said, were those granted loan facilities under its credit scheme for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).
He said the bank disbursed N2.3bn under the scheme to N110 beneficiaries out of which about N400m had been repaid.
He said “We don’t play with the recovery of debts. We will soon use every available legal means to go after such debtors and recover our money.”
He said the essence of the loan was to stimulate the economy, adding that the more the beneficiaries would repay the loans the more other people would benefit from the scheme.
The Managing Director said the Fidelity Bank had a kindred affinity and interest in Onitsha which he said resulted in the bank producing two governors of the state, Messrs Peter Obi and Willie Obiano in succession.
In his remarks, the chairman of the bank, Mr Ernest Ebi, said the Onitsha Customer Forum was necessitated by the desire of the bank to connect with its customers.
He said, “Onitsha is very important and significant to us. It’s your support that kept us. We’re not taking your patronage for granted.
“I attended the forum, personally because of the strategic importance of Onitsha to us. We brought the forum to you to thank you for your support over the years.”
The bank assured of collaboration with the Onitsha Business School to enlighten the business class in the area of the opportunities in modern commercial transactions, especially in export businesses.
