First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Nigeria’s most valuable bank brand, has again demonstrated its commitment to providing inclusion, advocacy and public enlightenment for blind and visually impaired persons in the country through its support for the Nigeria Society for the Blind (NSB) charity walk tagged ‘The White Cane Day Fitness Walk for Sight’.
The fitness walk is intended to create advocacy and public enlightenment on the special needs of the blind, particularly the support they need in their mobility plight. The walk would also demonstrate the acceptability of the White Cane as the tool of independence for the visually impaired and it has been scheduled for 7.00 am on Saturday August13, 2016, with the National Stadium Surulere as take-off point.
FirstBank’s support for the fitness walk for sight is implemented on the platform of its “Hope Rising” initiatives aimed at providing health and welfare support for indigent persons and persons living with disabilities.
The Bank’s staff would also participate at the event under the its Employee Volunteering Scheme (EVS), designed to encourage employees to individually and collectively contribute to social responsibility projects to further entrench social responsibility as a core component of its organisational culture.
Commenting on the Bank’s partnership with The Nigeria Society for the Blind, FirstBank’s Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Mrs. Folake Ani-Mumuney said that the bank would continue to support causes that impact on the lives of the society and empower its communities. “This partnership enables us draw attention towards the visually impaired in Nigeria, not forgetting the benefits of keeping fit and relieving stress”, she added. Through the years, the Bank has been committed to supporting the visually impaired through support for the charity walk and several other initiatives/donations.
