Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has announced plans to implement a minimum wage of N30,000 for workers in the state.
He made the announcement on Monday at a meeting with the leaders of organised labour held at the Labour House in Ilorin, the state capital.
The governor also approved the release of funds for payment of one month salary of Local Government and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) workers.
He sought the support of the workers for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara, Razak Atunwa, who was also present at the meeting.
Governor Ahmed also urged them to support other candidates of the party taking part in the coming general elections.
On their part, the organised labour declared their support for the party after signing an agreement with the governor who led top government officials to the meeting.
“In view of the MoU, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Joint Negotiations Council (JNC) and all affiliated unions resolve to fully support Kwara State government and all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 general elections,” the organised labour said in a letter.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Yekini Agunbiade (NLC), Nasir Olumo (TUC), and Salihu Sulyman (JNC).
Others who signed the document are Toyin Salihu, Yusuf Salihu, and Seidu Oladimeji, who represented the National Union of Teachers (NUT), National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), and National Union of Pensioners (NUP) respectively. – Channels.
