Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on Wednesday met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, few days after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mbah disclosed details of the meeting in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he said discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Enugu State and the Federal Government.
“Today, I had the honour of meeting with His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the State House, Abuja.
“We discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between Enugu State and the Federal Government to deliver greater prosperity for our people.
“Enugu remains fully committed to playing its part in building a stronger, united, and more prosperous Nigeria,” Mbah wrote.
Mbah formally defected to the APC during a recent press conference held in Enugu, the state capital.
The governor said his decision to join the ruling party was driven by his commitment to advancing Enugu’s interests and aligning the state’s development agenda with the Federal Government’s policies.
He described his defection as “a strategic move for visionary partnership that would bring transformative change” to both Enugu State and the nation.
Mbah, who was accompanied by his predecessor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as well as state and federal lawmakers, said the decision was not taken lightly, noting that it was necessary to “better serve the people of Enugu and ensure inclusive development under the APC-led Federal Government.”
His defection marks a significant political shift in Enugu, one of the South-East states traditionally dominated by the PDP.
