Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has donated 85 motorcyclesto neighbourhood watch groups in the 17 local government areas of the state to help them beef up security in their respective areas.

The governor had recently during a stakeholders’ meeting at Nsukka announced that his administration would donate five motorcycles to
each of the local government councils as a way of supporting their efforts to reinforce their neighbourhood watch groups currently working hard along with various security agencies to tame criminality in the state.

Speaking at the state office of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) on Tuesday evening, the governor who was represented by the state Commissioner for Local Government Matters, Mr. Chijioke Edeoga, said “the presentation of these motorcycles is to aid the
increasing consciousness with regards to security and community policing in all the local government areas of the state”.

He assured that the state government would continue to do more to promote all relevant agencies and bodies working to ensure security of lives and property in the state.

He lauded the current efforts of local government chairmen whom he said have contributed a lot in curbing criminality in their respective areas.

“The state government is presenting these motorcycles to aid the increasing consciousness with regards to security and community policing in all the local governments.

“This administration has done so much to protect lives and property in the state. These motorcycles are just to argument what has already been done” said the commissioner.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Fred Eze (rtd), said the presentation of the motorcycles which he called the “enablers” will go a long way in enhancing the task of securing the state, stressing that certain terrains suspected criminals reside can only be easily accessed using the motorcycles.

In his remarks, the state ALGON chairman, Prince Cornelius Nnaji, said the presentation is to support local government chairmen in reducing crimes to the barest minimum in the rural areas of the state.

He said ALGON was grateful to the state governor who made the donation in spite of the present harsh economic condition in the countries and considering the fact that his administration has done quite much in combating crime in parts of the state.
