There is currently an apprehension at the Queen’s Convent School in Awka, Anambra State, as a security officer (name withheld) employed by the school authorities, has allegedly been discovered to have impregnated no fewer than three pupils of the college.
It was gathered that the security man, in his early 30s, hails from Akwa Ibom State, and resumed work at the school, a couple of months ago.
It was learnt that the impregnated pupils are currently in Senior Secondary School (SSS) 2.
No decision has yet been taken by the school authorities regarding the development as of the time of filing this report.
The college is owned by the Anglican Diocese of Awka.
But a teacher in the school who craved anonymity said one of the pregnant girls attempted suicide by trying to jump down from the stairs of the hostel building but was rescued by fellow students and teachers.
She said, “The students had been complaining to the school authorities over the activities of the security man but they refused to act. The gateman puts on earrings with tattoos which he used in deceiving the innocent young students.
“Some of us did not like the idea of bringing young men of about 28-30 years as security men in a female school. Even the students wanted old men who would treat them like their daughters, but it was a collective decision by the authorities, yet, their own daughters are not here.
“Now that the bubble has busted, who do we blame, how will the parents of those students take it?”
Some of the parents who spoke to journalists on Thursday while pleading anonymity, had threatened to withdraw their children from the school, claiming that missionary schools were no longer what they used to be again.
Efforts to speak to the school authority for reaction proved abortive as the information officer was not available.
When contacted through one of the school’s dedicated contact telephone lines, the lady who responded said she was not yet aware of the incident but promised to get back after getting the requested information.
She was yet to do so as at the time of filing this report. – Punch.
