Gunmen said be dressed in police uniform have kidnapped a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr.Osaronu Adiele Amadi.
Amadi who is the Secretary of APC in the local government has also been designated the collation agent for the party in the area.
He was reportedly abducted abducted by gunmen from his residence in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government on Wednesday,March 16.
Rivers APC Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, confirmed the abduction of Amadi, while decrying what he described as porous security architecture that has allowed politically motivated kidnapping of opponents in the state.
“The whereabouts Osaronu Amadi remains unknown. We don’t know why any member of our party should be abducted by people who are obviously afraid of contest.
“We call on the Inspector General of Police to have a close look at the security in Rivers State”.
Nwauju also said there was also an unsuccessful attempt to abduct another chieftain of the party, Chibuike Ikenga after the gunmen ransacked his residence.
At the time of filing this report, the Rivers Police Command has not reacted to incident.
