Four soldiers and a civilian were killed on Wednesday by unknown gunmen at Umunze community in Orumba South local government area of Anambra state.
The gunmen reportedly struck at a roadblock mounted by the soldiers in the early hours of the day.
The latest incident in Anambra happened just a few days after a similar attack by unknown gunmen swooped on soldiers in Enugu state which left two soldiers dead.
Already, there is serious concerns among residents of Umumnze and other towns across Anambra state and others in the Southeast states over possible reprisal attack by soldiers.
The South-East has come under a serious state of insecurity following the activities of unknown gunmen who unleash terror on security personnel and unsuspecting public
Several public buildings including police stations, court premises and local government Secretariat complexes in the recent past had been attacked and razed in Anambra state by unknown gunmen.
Also, some high-profile individuals including have been murdered after they were kidnapped and beheaded by suspected hoodlums.
The activities of suspected gunmen have stunted the economy of the South-East region.
