Hyundai Motors donates ultra-modern ICT labs to schools nationwide

In line with Hyundai global cardinal objective of “Moving the World Together,” Hyundai Motors Nigeria Limited (HMNL), last week commenced the inauguration of ultra-modern ICT (Information Communication Technology) Laboratories, which it facilitated in select public schools and colleges across the country.

The project is aimed at exercising the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) principles of supporting grassroots education and enhancing human resources development.

Stallion Hyundai Motors Nigeria Limited Managing Director Parvir Singh who corroborated these hints in his keynote address at the inauguration of the ICT laboratory at Vetland Senior Grammar School Oko-Oba – Agege Lagos said the project also seeks to improve the lives of the people under a development-oriented and sustainable movement.

Represented by the company’s Head of Sales and Marketing Gaurav Vashisht, the director said the initiative was crucial to Hyundai corporate social values of touching lives and being a customer-centric organization that is loved and trusted by the society.

He added that the event was also being held simultaneously in several parts of the world with other Hyundai dealerships.

“We in Nigeria, in line with Hyundai Motors global CSR maxim of “Moving the World Together” are joining hundreds of thousands of other Hyundai dealerships across the world to demonstrate Hyundai’s Corporate Social Responsibility doctrines of empowering lives, supporting youths’ education and helping them to access quality education.”

It is in realization of these objectives that this year’s CSR campaign initiative was christened: ‘Supporting Computer Education for Brighter Tomorrow,’ Mr. Singh affirmed.

No fewer than eight schools and colleges in Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt are select beneficiaries of the ultramodern ICT gadgets, which includes the installation of 20 desktops computers each.

“We therefore hope this project will impact directly, hundreds of thousands of lives in Lagos and several other communities in Port-Harcourt and Abuja.”

In her reaction, the Lagos State Tutor General / Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Adebunmi Adekanye, who inaugurated the facility, said the recipient schools have had their ICT Labs equipped.

The schools, according to her are: Vetland Senior Grammar School Oko-Oba-Agege, Ipakodo Senior Grammar School Ikorodu, Kuramo Senior College Victoria Island and Fazi-l-Omar High School Iwaya-Yaba.

Mrs. Adekanye said the facilities would aid effective teaching and learning of computer studies as well as prepare the students for participation in online competitions and examinations.

She urged the students to utilize the facility to set goals for themselves by striving to become proficient in ICT, while also ensuring they explore the opportunity to have good grasp of global information without necessarily leaving the shores of Nigeria.

“I implore you to task yourselves and change your status as ordinary students to ‘globally competitive’ students,” the Lagos State Tutor General advised.”

Also encouraging the school teachers to be proactive and maximize the benefits of the ICT laboratory, the tutor general tasked the instructors to exhaust the possibilities of the centre “by coordinating the effective use of these facilities and taking full advantage of them for your educational development and exposure.”

Mrs. Regina Alebiosu, Principal Ipakodo Senior Grammar School Ikorodu had similarly said the school’s ICT centre will go a long way in developing the ICT skills of the students and teachers as well as intensifying their understanding of global issues. Her remark was contained in her speech at the inauguration of the school’s facility in Ikorodu Lagos.

“I therefore pledge on behalf of the students and staff of the school, that we shall put the computers to good use, secure them and guide them jealously.”

Also in his remarks, Mr. Dawodu A., Principal Kuramo Senior Secondary School Victoria Island said the inauguration of the school’s ICT lab will usher in a new vista of opportunities in the quest for knowledge just as “effective skills in ICT will help our students to develop a new culture of learning and the development of innate knowledge in arts, sciences and technology.”

The Principal, Fazi –I– Omar Senior Secondary School Iwaya-Yaba equally applauded the gesture and assured that the ICT lab would be maximized and guided jealously for the benefit of both the present and future students.

The respective ceremonies was witnessed by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, principals and teachers of neighbouring schools and colleges as well as Chairmen of Parents Teachers Association and students, who took their turns to entertain the guests with chains of cultural displays.
