It was flurries of activities yesterday as the new Council Boss of Igbo-Etiti LGA, England State, Hon. IG Ishienyi resumes after having the helms of office handed over to him by the immediate past Care Taker Committee Chairman, Hon. Malachy Agbo.
After the handover ceremony that held at the Chairman’s office, the Chairman proceeded to meet with the workers in the company of his predecessor.
Welcoming the new Council boss, the Head of Personnel and Management, Mrs. Amaka Okafor, promised that the workers would extend the same spirit of cooperation with which they had related with his predecessor.
On his part, the Chairman of the council workers union, NULGE, Mr. Hyacinth Obeta, pledged the workers loyalty while inviting the Chairman to continue with the goodies of his predecessor to the workers, who he said had made the interest of the workers paramount.
While giving his valedictory speech to the workers, Hon. Malachy Agbo thanked them for the cordial relationship that had existed between them and urged the workers to extend same to Hon. Ishienyi he had described as a tested and tried administrator who had all that it takes to take the council and it’s people to the next level.
Agbo said, “Mr. Chairman, as I hand over to you today, among the many things I have given you to hold well for our people is peace. Igbo-Etiti is noted for peace and we must sustain that. Happily, I know you will give us peace. We came in inheriting backlog of salaries and allowances. Today, as we are leaving, we are not owing. We have cleared everything. We know you will do better in this regards”
Responding, Hon. Ishienyi thanked the workers and pledged to work hard to live up to their expectations. He assured them he came to work and had come prepared.
He said “we are here to work. We will not only sustain the good works of Agbo, we will try to do more. At my first coming I didn’t joke with workers, I will not do so now. We will give our people what they deserve from us. However, everyone must gird their loins as all hands must be on deck. Thank you. God will guide all of us”
Present at the event were the Care Taker Committee members of the council, traditional rulers, opinion and political leaders, council workers, Youth Corps members and members of the public.
Thereafter, the Chairman proceeded to inspect some parts of the council roads that were washed away after recent rainfalls at Aku, Ukehe, Umunko and Ekwegbe communities.
