Senator Liyel Imoke, the Cross River State governor says he has never indicated interest in taking over from the embattled National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, nor any other elective office after vacating office on May 29th.
Senator Imoke who spoke at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport on arrival from Abuja on Friday said since he took the decision several months ago not to contest for any elective office, he has not changed his mind as he intends to retire and have some rest after servicing the country in various positions and therefore not contemplating running for any office in the near future.
“I have not expressed such interest and I don’t intend to express any interest to run for any elective position. I made it clear when I took the decision not to run for elective office several months back that my intention is not to participate in running for any elective office and have also not been approached by any one at any level that I should take up the office of National Chairman of our Party”.
He stated that though the party suffered a major defeat in the general election which has far reaching consequences but the onus is on us to rebuild the party the party but the rumour that he is poised to take over the running of the position of Chairman of PDP emanated from which is awash in the media. ‘When you are faced with such challenges sacrifices have to be made to rebuild the party” he said
Senator Imoke stated that he has been in the public limelight for so many years and wants to step aside in the meantime and pursue his personal interest before considering any plans to return to active political life. “ I intends to step aside from the public limelight even though I remain a strong member of the party and a very active one and as a founder of the PDP I remain a very strong member of my political party, the PDP”.
The outgoing governor assured that he would keep to his primes to pay the civil servants in the state the two months salary arrears which he assured them during May Day before he vacates office.
