President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday night met with former Nigerian leaders at the Presidential Villa where they all resolved to support him rescue the missing Chibok girls as well as address the current security situation in the country.
The meeting which lasted over an hour was over dinner.
According to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati who briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, those in attendance agrred “to find a solution to the issue of the missing Chibok girls as well as the general challenge of insurgency in the country”.
The former heads of state present were Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, Chief Ernest Shonekan, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, as well as the Bornu State Governor Ibrahim Shettima.
Those absent were former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Gen. Ibrahim Babangida. While no reason given for Obasanjo’s absence, Babangida had sent in his apologies following the death of the senator representing his constituency Senator Kuta, who passed away yesterday.
