The US State Department has released 1,280 pages of Hillary Clinton emails unearthed by the FBI during its investigation into the former secretary of state’s personal email server.
The State Department on Thursday produced 357 of the 15,000 Clinton emails produced under court order with just five days until Election Day, when the Democratic presidential nominee will compete against Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, for the White House.
The department has been reviewing and releasing the additional emails in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, and is likely publicly post at least 2,900 pages of Clinton’s emails to be reviewed ahead of November 8.
None of the newly released emails are marked as classified.
Thousands of emails have been released to Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group that has filed numerous legal complaints over the former secretary of state’s email setup while in office.
Clinton has come under fire for using a private email account and server at her home in New York for official emails when she was America’s top diplomat between 2009 and 2013.
Critics, including Trump, say she endangered government secrets and evaded transparency laws.
The State Department’s inspector general said in late May that Clinton’s personal server violated the department’s record-keeping rules and that it would have been rejected had she asked department officials.
Clinton sent about 30,000 emails to the State Department from her tenure as secretary which were then published in batches in line with a court order.
Last Friday, just days ahead of the November 8 election, FBI Director James Comey dropped a bombshell on the Clinton campaign by announcing the revival of the investigation into thousands of new emails sent by Clinton as secretary of state.
Following the FBI’s announcement, Clinton’s unpopularity among American voters has reached a new high, according to a new poll, putting her on par with her Republican rival Trump.
On Sunday, the FBI obtained a search warrant to begin reviewing the emails, reportedly numbering 650,000 and found on the laptop of Anthony Weiner, estranged husband of top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin. – Press TV.
