The wife of Enugu State Governor has identified negligence and absence
of maintenance culture as the major causes of the recent incident at
Oakland Events Centre Enugu which claimed two lives and left three
others with different degrees of injuries.
Mrs. Ugwuanyi made these views known when she visited the injured
victims at Niger Foundation Hospital in Enugu, noting that the
incident was both regrettable and avoidable.
She called for measures to ensure that there would never be a
reoccurrence of such disaster in the state and urged the parents of
both the deceased and injured victims to be strong in their spirit
while praying for the quick recovery of the injured ones and the
peaceful repose of the souls of those that died.
The Managing Director of the hospital Dr Ngwu, in his response,
thanked the governor’s wife for her timely visit, assuring her that
the victims were responding to treatment.
According to Mrs. Chioma Godwin, mother of one of the victims, the
incident occurred when the Coffee Cup Ride at the centre
malfunctioned. She expressed gratitude to God for sparing the lives of
her two children and to the governor’s wife for finding time to visit
them.
Accompanying Mrs. Ugwuanyi during the visit was Mrs. Adaku Ubosi, wife
of the Speaker Enugu State House of Assembly, as well as wives of some
Local Government Area Caretaker Committee Chairmen.
