The wife of the Enugu state Governor Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi, has called on mothers to intensify efforts in the de-worming of their children to reduce the risk of sudden illnesses that could be harmful to their health.
Mrs. Ugwuanyi made the call at Nkanu West local government area during a health care programme she carried out in five primary schools in the area.
She explained that the programme was initiated to remind mothers of their unavoidable roles in the family aimed at having healthy children in the society.
The Governor’s wife later enjoined the pupils to imbibe the culture of constant reading of their books, washing of hands after using the toilet as well as form the habit of cleanliness at home and in the school.
Mrs. Ugwuanyi, during the programme, administered free de-warming drugs, stationeries and lunch boxes to the pupils.
Earlier in their separate addresses, some of the Head masters and mistresses, including Mr. Godwin Nnaji, Mr. Kingsley Anyimba, Mrs. Patricia Offia and Iren Okereke thanked the governor’s wife for the kind gesture and called on Enugu State government to provide security, school furniture, renovation of school buildings as well as the provision of more classroom teachers to their schools in order to curtail some of their challenges.
On behalf of other pupils, Miss Mmesoma Ngene of Community Primary school Umueze Awkunanaw, commended Mrs. Ugwuanyi for her health programme which she said would go a long way to improve their health.
