The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, has tendered his resignation.
His resignation is coming on the heels of persistent calls by party chieftains for him to quit the office following the woeful performance of the party in the just-concluded national elections.
Mu’azu, who is currently in the United Kingdom on medical mission, has been under intense pressure to resign in the aftermath of the party’s woeful outing in the just concluded general elections.
Following the resignation, the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party quickly convened an emergency meeting to respond to the development.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting, National Secretary of the party, Prof. Adewale Oladipo announced that Deputy National Chairman, Uche Secondus would take over in acting capacity as the chairman.
He said: “The National Working Committee, NWC, of the PDP at its 399th meeting today, Wednesday 20, May 2015 received and accepted the voluntary resignation of the National Chairman of our great party, His Excellency, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.
“Consequently, and in line with the provisions of section 45(2) of the PDP constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus acts in place of the national chairman, pending the replacement from the north-east zone of our great country.
