National Assembly to reconvene next week – INEC Chairman

The National Assembly may reconvene next week, according to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmud Yakubu.

The INEC boss dropped the hint on Wednesday while speaking to newsmen at the end of a close-door meeting between National Assembly leadership and INEC management on the funding of 2019 general elections.

The legislature is currently on a two-month recess.

Yakubu said the National Assembly leadership at the meeting that lasted for over two hours gave an assurance that the N242 billion election budget proposal sent to the legislature by President Muhammadu Buhari in July will be approved next week.

“We have been assured of the speedy passage of the election budget proposals latest by next week”, Yakubu said.
