A new faction known as Reformed APC has emerged from Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Chairman of the faction, Buba Galadima, announced the emergence of the Reformed APC (R-APC) at a press briefing at the Sheraton hotel in Abuja, on Wednesday.
The new faction is mostly made up of aggrieved legislators of the APC.
Mr Galadima claimed the faction was formed because the APC had sidelined its members and had issues with governance.
“We are sad to report that after more than three years of governance, our hopes have been betrayed, our expectations completely dashed,” he said.
Mr. Galadima was the National Secretary of the former Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), one of the legacy parties that formed the APC and also the party under which Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari contested presidential election in 2011.
Mr. Galadima noted that the party was in turmoil and in legal battles as a result of the divisions that resulted from the state congresses where 24 states had parallel congresses.
Other members of the reformed APC include leading members of the new PDP, CPC, ANPP, ACN and others.
The new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) bloc in the APC, whose members were present at the faction’s meeting, had on earlier on Wednesday, announced the likely adoption of a new name.
The leader of the group, Abubakar Kawu Baraje, who sat with Galadima, had said: “We are all still in APC but the nPDP will come up with a lot of changes. nPDP is likely to change its name as a splinter group from APC.”
Baraje had on Monday announced that his group would make its positions regarding its relationship with the APC known this week.
He emphasised that whatever decision they made, would promote the well being of Nigerians.
