NOUN calls for more study centres in Enugu

The National Open University of Nigeria ( NOUN ) has appealed to
Enugu State Government to encourage communities to establish study
centres of the university for the acquisition of knowledge at the
grassroots under public /private partnership arrangement.
Speaking during the courtesy visit to Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu
State at the Government House Enugu, the Vice Chancellor of the
University, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu said that the request for the
expansion became necessary in view of the increasing number of
students in its  Enugu campus which are over 19,000 in number.
Prof. Adamu noted that the proposed study centres when established
would be of immense benefits to the communities and the state at large
as it will generate employment and empowerment for people from the
areas, who are expected to provide the workforce for the centres in
their various communities.
Prof Adamu, who described Enugu Study Centre as one of the most
critical centres in the country, disclosed that the university has
been offering free education to prisoners in the country to give
access to knowledge notwithstanding their state of incarceration.
The Vice Chancellor commended President Mohammed Buhari for his
intervention in the establishment of the new main campus of the
university at Abuja through the release of fund for the completion of
the project by TETFUND.
