The Nsukka Professionals Group (NPG) has commended Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State and the Peoples Democratic Party caucuses over the emergence of Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the consensus candidate for the 2015 Governorship election in the state.
In a statement signed by the President of the group, Dr. Basil Onugu and Secretary, Barr. Otoboeze Chikwado, it noted that Hon. Ugwuanyi did not only emerge as the consensus candidate of his party but because of his sterling qualities that earned him the confidence, trust and respect of both the stakeholders and his fellow aspirants.
According the group, “There is no iota of doubt that Hon. Ugwuanyi is eminently qualified, competent, and has the right compliment of skills set necessary to, not only sustain but, also advance Gov. Chime’s enviable legacies to the next level. Above all, unity and peace remain not only a sine-qua-non but, also most imperative for the sustenance of the current tempo of development in the state. Hon. Ugwuanyi is not only an epitome of peace but also large hearted and quite accommodating to the weak and mighty alike. He is a team player of choice.
“We will also thank Gov. Chime and the leadership of the party in the state for their consistent demonstration of dedication and commitment towards ensuring that Enugu North Senatorial Zone produces the next Governor of the state, come 2015. It is not common in our political clime to find leaders who are concerned about equity, fairness and justice as demonstrated in the course of this exercise.
“NPG therefore, earnestly salutes His Excellency’s courage in instituting and defending the exemplary internal democratic style devoid of thuggery, rancour and violence. The group also thanks the stakeholders of the party in Enugu North Senatorial Zone for the maturity they exhibited in handling the nomination process, and the party caucuses in other zones in the state for their resounding and unwavering support. The professionalism cum- uncommon democratic process exhibited at the caucus meeting, which resulted in the emergence of Hon. Ugwuanyi will ever remain an historic landmark in the state’s political firmament.”
The group further commended all other aspirants who accepted and supported Hon. Ugwuanyi’s nomination in the spirit of sportsmanship and appealed to the aggrieved ones to sheath their swords as a patriotic sacrifice for the zone in particular and Enugu state in general “since, according to them, the position is mearnt for one person, at a time as our people will say if the antelope escapes today, tomorrow is another hunting day.”
