Omisore dumps PDP, to contest Osun guber ticket in SDP

A former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, has finally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) where he said he intended to contest the September 22 governorship election in the state.

Omisore announced his defection in a statement made available to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday.

He made his decision to dump his former political party public some hours after a governorship aspirant on the platform of the SDP, Chief Kola Oladeji, said he would give the new entrant into the party a good fight for the governorship ticket of the party.

The former governor said his governorship ambition would be realised on the platform of his new political party, saying he was ready to rescue the state from the ruling All Progressives Congress and return it to the path of prosperity.

Omisore said he played a big role in the formation of the Alliance for Democracy but was forced to leave the party and join the PDP.

He vowed that he would remain committed to ensuring good governance in Osun State and would not allow any treachery or gang-up to make him lose focus.

The statement read in part, “Engaging and working with like-minded leadership, we have sought for an alternative platform that will assure both credible and legitimacy that will rescue Osun State from its current reckless misrule.  Our quest for an alternative political platform is basically in pursuit of a credible political structure that would guarantee that our people enjoy the benefits of accountable leadership at the state level from now.

“Notwithstanding my enormous contributions over the past years or so to building the PDP, after very deep thought and the widest consultations with my God, my family, my supporters in and outside Osun State, it is with great concern that I have made a very expedient decision today, to withdraw my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party and join the Social Democratic Party; a party that believes in a balanced, equitable and truly functional Nigeria.”
