BREAKING: Iyorchia Ayu emerges consensus PDP chairmanship candidate

The National Chairman-elect of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has denied plans by his administration to investigate the management of the party by his predecessors.

Ayu made this known in a statement his media office, Abuja, made available to TheCitizen on Saturday.

Ayu, a former Senate President, emerged as the new chairman of the PDP at the party’s convention held in October to succeed the Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee and is expected to resume alongside other members of the NWC on December 9, 2021.

A former national chairman of the PDP, Dr Okwesilezie Nwodo, had in a paper titled, ‘Political Party Funding,’ which he presented during a two-day national retreat held for newly elected NWC members and other party stakeholders in Abuja on Thursday, urged the party to strictly monitor its accounts following the lack of transparency in the management of its finances by successive administrations.

Ayu had while responding said his administration would review the reports of the different committees set up by the outgoing NWC, look at the facts and address each issue according to the facts available.

“The outgoing NWC has set up different committees to look into different areas. We shall take up all the reports, review them, look at the facts and attend to each issue according to the facts available to us. I want to assure you that we shall try to clean our house no matter who is going to be affected. We shall try to clean our house following due process and that due process also includes exhausting all internal conflict resolving mechanisms before we bring in any external intervention when we cannot resolve the issue”.

But the national chairman-elect, in a statement from his media office, said he had not seen the books of the party and could not make an authoritative comment on any allegations, adding that he works with facts.
