The Performing Musicians Employee Association of Nigeria, Rivers State, Port Harcourt has described Rivers State Police Command as a new pyramid in the administrative system of Protecting its citizenry. The Commissioner of Police, Tunde Ogunsakin and his team was also referred to as an outstanding Police Chiefs and commended them for joint efforts in promoting stability and calm experienced in the state since his arrival.
The statement was made when a delegation of PMAN members made a courtesy call on the Commissioner on Friday, July 4, 2014 led by their president, Lady IB who stated in her speech thus;“We know that things are not the way they used to be in Rivers state and Port Harcourt City but we are all aware that you are the best CP and we are privileged to be in your presence”.
The musicians in their statement charged the Commissioner of Police to let his team know that musicians walk in the night as a result of our profession and we want police authority to be with us and give us special assistance to cover us in the night while doing our duty. The PMAN also congratulated CP Tunde Ogunsakin for his institution of quality Policing and his all-inclusive policy despite his apparently busy schedule. According to the PMAN chairman on conflict resolution, Mr OP;
‘We want to officially welcome you to Rivers State and to say that for the period you have been here, it has been very pleasant, the wrangling that have been going on are no more. We thank you for your good gestures and the good job you are doing’.
The performing artiste went on to state some of their concerns to an attentive COMPOL Ogunsakin.
They cited the need for the Police to work in their favour to avert arrest of PMAN members in view of the fact that most of their performances were carried out at night. A passionate plea was also made for endorsement of PMAN state identity card by the Commissioner of Police with a promise that all members would be of acceptable social behavior.
The group equally proposed areas where they were willing to partner with the Rivers State Police Command in dispensing their duties. Areas identified include; traffic decongestion, clamping down of pirates, information sharing and promoting peace through music.
CP Tunde Ogunsakin in his response appreciated the PMAN delegation and expressed his satisfaction with the synergy that now exists between members of the public and the Rivers State Police Command. He also gave assurance of the commitment of the Police to render help to the people of Rivers State whenever needed stating that PMAN would not be an exception.
