Executive Chairman of Ikwerre Local Council of Rivers State, Samuel Nwanosike, has banned tricycle operations, popularly called “Keke” in all communities within the council.
The Chairman, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Chris Omodu, said the ban, which takes immediate effect, was part of measures taken by the council to mitigate crime in the area. Nwanosike said the ban followed an intelligence report at his disposal, and directed security operatives to arrest and prosecute defaulters.
The council boss clarified that the ban was not targeted at any individual nor meant to cause hardship on operators or commuters, but to keep the council safe and secure lives and property. Recall that the chairman had earlier banned the operations of motorcycles in the council to curtail widespread crimes.
